Teachers and educators will have access to hundreds of free, practical resources to help them base their practice on evidence that works.

The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO), a new independent evidence institute, helps teachers and educators access and use high-quality evidence, with the aim of working towards excellent and equitable outcomes for all children and young people.

AERO has expanded its practice guides and resources for educators in early childhood education and care, primary and secondary schools, as part of a new 'practice hub' on AERO’s website. The practice hub provides a central point for teachers to access these resources, which are tailored to the Australian context and include 'Tried and Tested' practice guides, implementation tools, case studies and research evidence.

Practice hub topics include explicit instruction, family engagement, mastery learning, formative assessment and focused classrooms.

AERO also offers standards of evidence, to help teachers and educators determine the rigour of research and which approach might work best for them.

In addition, AERO's partnership with Ochre Education, a new Australian education not-for-profit organisation, sees AERO supporting Ochre to work with teachers to produce hundreds of free teaching resources. These include around 300 high-quality video lessons and about 550 resources such as lesson slides, worksheets and quizzes in primary maths, English and secondary science.

Ochre resources are suitable for face-to-face and remote learning, and will be made progressively available to teachers from Term 1, 2022. Teachers can find them on AERO’s website and the Ochre platform.

Dr Jenny Donovan, AERO’s CEO, says, ‘AERO wants to improve student learning by encouraging teachers to use evidence-based practices that are proven to work. One way to support teachers to adopt effective practices is to show them what these approaches look like in classrooms.

AERO's practice hub resources and the Ochre lessons and resources will save teachers time and build confidence during face-to-face and remote learning — and Australia’s students will be the winners.’
